Repertoire Study Group: Introduction
Welcome to the Clarinet Repertoire Study Group!
This is a new project we're starting here on tonebase clarinet.
Every other week on Fridays, I’ll share a short excerpt (8–16 bars) from a clarinet piece — whether that's something classical, Romantic, or something exciting and modern. This will be one of the challenging or most iconic sections of that piece, designed to help you expand your knowledge of repertoire while simultaneously improving your clarinet playing!
When possible I'll present two excerpts, and you can choose the appropriate excerpt based on your tonebase level - or learn both!
You’ll get:
A short video with background on the piece, practice tips, and a favorite recording to listen to, as well as a printable copy of the excerpt.
Your job is then to:
Learn the excerpt, record yourself, and share it with the community for feedback and encouragement. (Or if you've learned the whole piece, feel free to share your complete performance!)
Share a story about the piece or the composer, or your own experience performing it in the past if you've already done so
Share your own favorite recording if you've found one
You can also dip into past excerpts anytime — I’m always happy to offer feedback.
For more information please watch the video above. You can suggest repertoire in our dedicated thread, and if you have questions, just reply here or email me at [email protected].
Let’s explore the clarinet’s wonderful repertoire together!

Wonderful idea! Something with altissimo or fast articulation... I'm trying to improve these in particular. Thank you 😊
