Finger Dexterity Challenge: Final week!!
Congratulations to everyone who has made it to the final week!!
Unless you've decided to work through a different section of the 417 studies (in case you've already learned the ones in C major), this week we're going to be working on Studies 13-16 (now in A minor!).
You should have received from me a downloadable PDF of all of Book 1, but if you didn't receive that (maybe you didn't sign up originally) just post below and I'll send it to you!
Objectives for the Week (no surprise here but the objectives remain the same for every week of this challenge!)
1. Watch the lesson above.
2. Practice your four studies using your metronome and maybe using a timer to work through drilled repetitions (set your timer for 5 minutes and do as many repetitions you can, then sit for 30 seconds in silence)
3. Upload a video to your favourite platform (i.e., YouTube or Vimeo) and post it here by Sunday to share your progress
4. Cheer on your fellow clarinetists as they learn their studies!

Here is 16! It's so nice. I feel like I was able to up the tempo and pay more attention to dynamics this time. Here's my interpretation of the chords: Am, E7, E7, Am, Bb, Am, E7, Am. That out of key Bb is so good.
I also changed the ending, sorry Fritz, I think it works better this way.

I was very glad to participate to this challenge ! In summertime I have more time than during the school year. I learned a lot about hands and embouchure with the videos I watched. Something interesting is the position of the tong that can help a lot for some notes. (And this can also be applied for singing !) I find that this studies have beautiful melodies and interesting challenges with different registers. I like them. Thank you Heather for your enthusiasm and support, and for your videos with clear insights and suggestions !
Thank you to the other participants, it was nice not to be alone in this four weeks !

Hi everyone, even though I started sharing videos late, I've been following the challenge from the beginning and practicing the exercises. I thought it was great to have a goal for each week and to share my motivation with you. Heather, I'd love to continue doing challenges like this; you asked for our opinion. What I've learned is that it usually takes me a little longer than a week to get up to speed. If I try too quickly, it gets a bit messy, especially if I do more than one repetition. But 4 per week is totally fine.
have a nice week!
